Take in the Moroccan sun by day, and then, as the evening draws near watch the sun set behind the Koutoubia mosque and the snow-capped Atlas mountains from the roof terrace of the riad.
The magical call to prayer from at least eight mosques simultaneously will remind you that the mysteries of the night in Marrakech beckon.

  • Wander through the maze of souks (miles of market alleys) and share endless cups of mint tea whilst bargaining for that carpet, those Moroccan suede slippers, that Saharan jewellery, chest, kaftan, basket, magic box, handbag, belt, spices, antiques....it is the easiest way to experience the warmth and charm of the Moroccan people and their culture.

  • Watch as the craftsmen make their wares in front of you. Whether you buy or not you will have made many more ‘best friends’ and ‘family members’ for next year’s Christmas card list. The souks reward returning again and again.

  • Spend a morning being steamed, scrubbed, covered in aromatic clay from head to foot and then washed down with buckets of water in a Moroccan hammam. Follow this with a massage to complete the pampering.
  • Each night the main square of Marrakech, Place J’ma El F’na fills with snakecharmers, fortune tellers, dancers, toothpullers, musicians, acrobats...It is a nightly gathering that confirmed the square as a UNESCO Heritage site, not only for the buildings but for the human spirit of the place.

  • Take a Caleche (horse drawn carriage) in downtown Marrakech and ask for a tour of the old streets of the Medina. (They seat 5 and cost 8 euros an hour)

  • Go to the Palmeraie, just outside Marrakech for golf, horse riding, camel riding.

  • Cultural sights and museums in Marrakech are abundant.

  • Visit the Majorelle gardens, home to Yves Saint Laurent.

  • Take a day trip into the Atlas Mountains and Essaouira. Along the way visit a Berber market and village. Upon request.

  • Have a Henna party in the riad (we can arrange the henna artist, and have already supplied the refreshments!)
